Cool Click: Favicons of the Web

September 12, 2010

In case you haven’t seen this already, you simply must check it out. This is an infographic from nmap.org with all of the world’s favicons, ordered by page traffic rank. If you click on the link, you can further dive in and see exactly which icons are being used to make up each of the colors.

I think that this chart really helps to put everything in perspective. How huge is a Google or a Facebook? Is WordPress really as big as ebay or myspace? I’m not sure there’s a better way to display exactly what is important on the internet right now than this chart.

Not only does it help put the sites we use every day into perspective, but it also can remind us that sites that we may not use every day (about.com, aol, and myspace come to mind) are still are still much, much bigger than a niche site like CNN, ESPN or IMDB.

Enjoy the image on the right, check out the full-size version (you can zoom in!), and let me know if you find anything interesting.
